AMARA ENYIA RELEASES STATEMENT ON DONALD TRUMP’S NATIONAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION
Chicago (February 15, 2019) – Today’s “national emergency” declaration is just another example of the Trump administration going out of its way to spread fear and hate. While the White House is continuing their racist policies and antics, it’s important for all communities of color to come together at the local level and protect each other. Chicago needs to join other cities and states to fight this tyranny in the courts. We need to remove all exceptions to our welcoming city ordinance so there is zero cooperation with a racist Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE). We need to become a true sanctuary city where immigrants don’t just have legal protection, but they have full access to education, economic opportunity and social services. Immigrants belong in Chicago. They belong in America.
