Chicago (February 11, 2019) – Today’s courageous actions by Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Special Prosecutor Joseph McMahon are a breath of fresh air to our state’s judicial system.
I applaud AG Raoul and Special Prosecutor McMahon for having the fortitude and moral compass to do the right thing by asking the Illinois Supreme Court to re-examine Jason Van Dyke’s sentencing. While today’s actions are a small step in finally achieving justice for Laquan McDonald and his family, it continues to spotlight our city’s racial disparity with justice.
The people of Chicago deserve new leadership that will center equity and fairness for marginalized communities. That’s what I’m offering voters on February 26.
