Amara Enyia Statement on Jeff Session Final Regressive Act as U.S. Attorney General

CHICAGO (Nov. 9, 2018) — “While I am relieved Jeff Sessions’ final regressive act as U.S. Attorney General won’t affect the consent decree in Chicago, it shows how little the Trump Administration understands matters of racial equality and social justice.

Chicago’s consent decree was developed with years of painstaking effort through court rulings, the tireless work of activists, the oversight of our state Attorney General and was based on real, demonstrable matters of racial profiling, police brutality and wrongful convictions. It is an essential step toward improving our police department and justice system.

While ignoring America’s largest and most diverse cities to hold endless, pointless rallies in rural America, the Trump Administration continually demonstrates willful ignorance to our most crucial issues.”
